OVERVIEW
LEMNOS mixes old world charm with homestyle cooking from the Greek island of Santorini and brings it to a wonderful old neighbourhood in Melbourne with a fresh modern venue. A short drive from the CBD will take you to this lovely restaurant on High Street. This area of town has undergone a renaissance and now sports a vibrant nightlife. The owner/operator picked up a lot of his cooking knowledge from his uncle’s restaurant in Santorini. The food is sourced fresh daily and then cooked the old fashioned way on a charcoal grill in the back of the restaurant.
FOOD AND SERVICE
I’ve always found that restaurants who feature homestyle cooking tend to serve the most delectable and flavourful cuisine and Lemnos is no exception. Service was quick and friendly and it gave you a feeling of being a part of a large family. We started with appetizers from the MENU that included Marinated Lima Beans, Charcoal Grilled Octopus, , Mixed Dips – Antipasto style, Saganaki – The famous grilled cheese served in a hot pan, Village Greek Salad (covered by a large brick of feta). Delicious and filling but we had to try some of the mains with their speciality being seafood. Bring on King George Whiting – Boneless & charcoal-grilled fish which was flaky and delightful white fish. This was followed by Lamb Souvlaki – Marinated lamb on the skewer cooked to perfection on the charcoaled grill. The room was filled with the magnificent aromas of greek cuisine wafting throughout.
