THE BRIEF
I recently had a chance to enjoy a fine dining experience at one of Hawaii’s fairly new restaurants. It’s called TBD…by Vikram Garg. It’s located in Waikiki’s trendy Gold Coast at The Lotus Honolulu Hotel. Chef Garg is an award-winning chef in Hawaii and around the world. I was really looking forward to the evening’s culinary experience.
As you enter you’re treated to a modern, minimalist type of decor. It’s elegant and comfortable. Perfect for conversation, whether you are a couple or a group. The dining experience is anything but simple as it takes the palate on an exploration of Vikram Garg’s global career and eclectic influences.
You can check out the Dinner Menu here. We started with “À La Escargot” featuring Café de Paris Butter and ordered the Bento entree as well.TBD Bento comes with Falafel and has Hummus, Smoked Eggplant, and Flat Bread nestled in the box. The decision was made to pair the Rhône Blend, Neyers “Sage Canyon”, California-US for the meal. The presentation was outstanding and everything was delicious and well portioned. The baked shrimp was fresh and bursting with flavour. The Bento was a tasty, healthy choice, and went well with the Falafel.
For the entrée, we chose the Lamb Shank “Tajine”. It was cooked to fall off the bone perfection. It’s served with cooked vegetables, parsley salad, and Raisins & Saffron Pilaf. The Lamb sits in a curry-spiced sauce and the whole thing just works together beautifully.
THE DEBRIEF
Chef Garg was in the kitchen behind us and came over to our table to say hello. We remarked about the wonderful meal as the Chef poured us a couple more glasses of wine. Talk about a personal touch. Amazing! I can sum up the night with that word as well. It’s a beautiful restaurant with wonderful food and service. If you’re in Waikiki, this one should be on the reservation list for you.
