THE BRIEF
I’d been wanting to visit the Kahala Hotel Resort and also have dinner at one of the restaurants there for quite a while. In late November my assistant scored a reservation and off we went. With the valet parking out of the way, we entered through the main doors to an elegant, plush and comfortable dining room and lounge called The Veranda. It’s a combination of traditional and modern Hawaiian furniture. It was absolutely gorgeous! I was in love with this place and I’d only been there for a few minutes.
The iconic Kahala chandelier sways to the island breezes and wonderful live music gently flows through the dining areas. Don’t miss Kamuela Kahoano’s performances.
The place setting was stunning. Fine crystal, china, silverware, and linen adorned the table. Nice!
To start the evening we perused the extensive and comprehensive Wine List and decided to order the Rutherford Hill Merlot from Napa Valley. Aromas of oak, plums, and chocolate fill the nose. It has a smooth and somewhat smokey extra dry finish.
For appetizers, we chose the Kamuela tomato and Burrata with a side of Deviled Truffle Eggs. The bread was over toasted but the tomatoes were delightful. The deviled eggs were perfection and I thoroughly enjoyed that item.
The main courses which consisted of Fois Gras Musabi and Salmon with Dill were complimented nicely by some more of the delightful Ruthford Merlot. The New Zealand Salmon was cooked to perfection and served with lovely Fingerling Roasted Potatoes and some salted Cabbage.
To cap off the meal and the wonderful evening an amazing Banana Cream Pie was brought to our table. My assistant poured the cream sauce and we were set to enjoy. Superb!
THE DEBRIEF
The Veranda has an amazing ambience coupled with excellent service. I found the food that was sampled by me that night was for the most part really good. The seating is comfortable and it’s easy to while away the evening enjoying the wonderful room and some beautiful music with a lovely meal. I’ll be returning here often.
