THE BRIEF
Interestingly, MW Restaurant is located inside and beside Velocity Honolulu which is a luxury car dealership. It’s a very short drive from Waikiki and a nice central location for tourists and locals alike.
My assistant had mentioned that MW Restaurant was known as one of the finer dining establishments on the island. Just like many of the other fine restaurants in Waikiki that I tried, reservations are difficult to get and booking well in advance is recommended.
The “M” and “W” team of husband-and-wife chefs Michelle Karr-Ueko and Wade Ueko bring together their 20 years of experience of working with chef Alan Wong to create a uniquely local MENU with an upscale twist.
The server took the time to go over the highlights and favourites on the menu such as the Kampachi. We opted for the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing. This started with chilled cauliflower soup which was very well made with Edamame.
Next up was the Kampachi which was delicious and paired with a nice Pinot Grigio from Italy.
Then the Lobster Scallop in mild wasabi sauce came out and this too was delicious and was paired with a Rose from Spain that had a wonderful nose to it.
For a finale, there is a Prime Grade Beef Tenderloin served with vegetables in a truffle sauce. It was deliciously cooked to perfection medium rare and melted in my mouth. This was paired with a very nice Syrah/Cabernet from France.
MW is known for featuring some very nice desserts and tonight was no exception. The tasting menu features the Tropical Fruit Creamsicle for a finish. Amazing texture and flavour from this baby.
THE DEBRIEF
All in all, it was just a wonderful culinary experience dining at MW and It’s become one of my favourite restaurants in Waikiki. You won’t be disappointed here so make sure to give it a go.
