WESTJET 737 PREMIUM CLASS

PREFLIGHT
I haven’t flown WESTJET in quite a while but it satisfied the requirements for a recent trip I had to make. The number one reason I didn’t … they did not have a business class and you tended to end up in a sardine configuration on a 737. Since then, as the years rolled by, they have added 767’s, a Premium product that is very close to business on their 737’s and the 787’s do have a business class now. With that in mind, I went ahead and booked a direct flight to Orlando from Toronto.
CABIN AND SERVICE

Customs was an absolute mess which is something I run into frequently when using Terminal 3 at PEARSON AIRPORT. Boarding was quick and efficient. They have a priority lane for Premium passengers and so I was at my seat, with the bags stowed in the generous overhead bins, in no time. I was at seat 2C which has a 36/17 pitch/width and was fairly comfortable with generous legroom although there is a metal box making it a bit narrow down there for aisle passengers.

The service was quite good and WestJet cabin crew are known for trying to add a little humour to the total experience of the flight. There was an excellent Australian Merlot to sip on and it paired well with a Greek Salad and Alberta Beef. Nice meal at FL380 on a beautiful day for flying!

THE DEBRIEF
I thought this flight deserved a mention because it pleasantly surprised me. It was so much better than a flight I had taken many years in the past. They call this product Premium but I would have to say it’s almost as good as some business class I’ve been in on other airlines. Overall it was a very good flight and I look forward to the Business Class they will be ushering in soon on the 737’s.
