THE BRIEF

I had my team find me a suitable place to hang my hat for a trip I would be doing to Da Nang, Vietnam. They chose a hotel right on the beach called the FOUR POINTS SHERATON.

Now, for those of you familiar with the Four Points brand in North America, I should remark that you will experience a far different property down in this part of the world. As soon as you enter the lobby, you’re struck by the clean, modern elegance of the building.

The managers came out to greet me. Incredibly friendly, courteous folks they were. I was even assigned my own Elite Manager for the sojourn. They guided me up to the room on one of the higher floors. It was a breathtaking suite with a separate bedroom and baths, plus a dining room and a living room opening out to adjacent balconies.

The room turned out to be a very comfortable and quiet place to call home for a few weeks. Housekeeping services were excellent. Not only linens but also bathrobes were refreshed constantly. I did have a problem early on convincing everyone that I needed more water daily than the average bear. They also supplied me with an everyday fruit plate and yogurt. Nice!

A nice sidewalk across the street allowed for a nice walk along the seashore of Da Nang beach. You could easily stroll for many kilometres past the other hotels and restaurants available. The white sandy beach was also perfect for walking through the water.

A wonderful Sunday brunch was served in the Eatery, the restaurant located on the 3rd floor. Daily breakfast was served here as well.

There were many amenities to enjoy in the hotel, such as the rooftop pool and a floor dedicated to a spa and gym, which were included in the nightly price of the room. There was a men’s and women’s spa that included a hot tub, sauna and a steam room.

The Horizons Bar and Grill was also on the rooftop next to this pool for all your food and drink needs. I had a 25% discount given to me, and so I ate here almost every day at a very reasonable price. There was live music here on weekends as well. Nice!

The fitness center was relatively small, but it was nicely equipped with new apparatus, and you could get a nice workout here.

And what’s better than a sauna or a steam after that workout? The men’s spa had a large jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. There was also an attendant on hand to get you a locker or anything else you might need there.

The sauna was a bit small (only room for two people at most), and the door allowed the heat to escape quite a bit. It was possible to crank the heat up and splash some water on the rocks to get a good sauna experience—my only complaint in an otherwise excellent facility.

THE DEBRIEF

Vietnam has become a vibrant and busy country with huge economic upside. I found the people to be very friendly and helpful wherever I went. The hotel was a new, modern, beautiful facility with an incredible staff who could not do enough for you. My overall experience was a very good one, and I enjoyed a very comfortable stay. Anyone looking for an inexpensive vacation and luxury lodging should consider Vietnam as a destination. See also my review of VIETNAM AIRLINES.
