THE BRIEF

Finally, I got to book another Emirates flight after many years of travelling with other carriers in different parts of the world. Sadly, many destinations I frequented do not have service from this airline. If you are travelling to Dubai, this is a must-book in my opinion.

Boarding took place on time. We were ushered into the upper bridge for first and business-class passengers. I love this feature. It makes getting to the seat you paid extra for, much easier. No crowding or searching for a bin here.

I chose seat 23A at the back of the business class section but just up from the stand-up bar on the marvellous A380.

Bags were stowed quickly in the generous overhead bin storage. The seat was comfortable and had ample legroom, something you will get in any airline’s business class that is still flying this well-designed aircraft.

It was a rainy, cold day, in Toronto and I was happy to be flying somewhere sunny and warm! I selected one of the glasses (no plastic here) of champagne that was being distributed before pushing for taxi. It had a wonderful white fruit and vanilla nose. It was a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay grapes. The kind of class you would expect from Emirates Air. Other carriers around the world should take note.

Every business class should have some kind of stand-up bar. Gives you a nice excuse to get up and stretch your legs on a long flight. You don’t want to be up too long without a seat belt on, but a few minutes on a smooth flight is normally alright. There is seating with seat belts around the bar lounge.

An extensive array of menus were brought to the seat during the climb out. They covered all the drinks and food on board for this rather long flight. We reached our final cruise altitude of a smooth FL410 for the 13-hour trip—time to get comfortable and choose some food and beverages.

The menus are extensive and cover the available items for the flight. Get ready for some serious reading.

The appetizer plate was of a generous portion. It was a healthy choice that was just delicious.

I chose the Atlantic Bass for dinner. It was tender and flaky with lots of flavour.

Another healthy choice offered for dessert was a seasonal fruit plate. It was fresh and a perfect finale to the meal.

When you have this level of comfort and service the flight tends to go quickly. Before I knew it we started our descent into Dubai.

THE DEBRIEF

There’s a reason why Emirates makes it into the top five of my annual Best Airlines of the Year Awards consistently. They are just above the rest in service and comfort and last year have made the top of my 2023 list. This flight and my return just reinforced their status. This one earns my coveted Captain’s Cap.

👍👍👍👍
