 PREFLIGHT

I had never flown EVA AIR  prior to booking this flight although I was familiar with the brand as they were part of THE STAR ALLIANCE  as was the airline I flew for and I knew they had a good reputation.  When the opportunity came up to fly them from Singapore to Toronto, at a reasonable price, I jumped at it. After having a nice meal and relaxing a bit in the SilverKris lounge(SEE MY REVIEW) at terminal 3 it was time to head for the gate to catch BR226 for Taipei.

I got on board quickly through the (ROYAL LAUREL CLASS) line and made my way to seat 3K. They use my favourite configuration in this cabin which is the 1-2-1 giving you a seat to yourself for stretching out in. In this class of EVA’S 777 the seats have an 81 pitch and 26 width to allow a tall guy like myself to stretch out in comfort or lie back flat for a snooze. I had a warm welcome by name and was then offered a hot towel and a glass of champagne. What better way to start the flight than with a newspaper and some champagne. Other comforts at the station included a toiletry kit which had all the standard clean up and sleeping aids for a long flight. This flight to Taipei was over 4 hours and the next leg to Toronto would be 14 hours. Fortunately, I was in for some very good service.

DESERT OF FRUIT AND CHOCOLATE

Before dinner the flight attendant prepared the table with perhaps the nicest linen I’ve seen on a flight. EVA AIR has a fine selection of wine, spirits and beers on their Royal Laurel class menu. I chose EVA’s award winning red wine which was “The Islander Estate Old Rowley 2014” from South Australia. This paired well with the braised beef and vegetables which was delightful and healthy. Then it was time for the desert plate that had fresh fruit and some chocolate to finish off this fine offering.  I got some work done after dinner and followed the progress of the flight on the screen. The next thing I knew we were preparing to land in Taipei.

THE DEBRIEF

I’m very glad I took this opportunity to try EVA AIR. Everything from check-in to deplane was very nicely done. The service was great, the attention to details and the onboard experience super, and even though it was a long flight, the time just seemed to slip by quickly. If your looking for a comfortable business class flight at a reasonable price I recommend giving them a look.
